Library Spotlight - McManus Word Warriors

Thanks to Mom's Restaurant

We'd like to recognize Mom's efforts to support literacy in our Chico schools.  Mom's provides Reading Rewards Bookmarks (available in your school library) which provides students with a FREE Kid's Meal at Mom's after reading five books.  At the end of their meal, students receive a beautiful certificate and a pencil to further celebrate reading.  Each month one redeemed Reading Reward student is honored with an additional reward and photo op from Mom's.

Mom's also hosts monthly fundraisers for Chico schools and hosts additional events to honor literacy, education, and teachers.  We are truly grateful for all Mom's does to support our schools and encourage our young readers!

Tips for Teachers

New Trimester AR Setup

Don’t forget that you need to create new Marking Period Goals for each new trimester in AR.

 To do this:

-Go to Accelerated Reader -> Record Books and Goals -> Reading Practice Goals.

-Click on Select Marking Periods at the top.

-Press Select next to the new Marking Period and Save.

-Assign the minutes of Daily Reading and then click Update All Students.

-IMPORTANT!  Next, you’ll want to select the GE Test Date (STAR Reading score) that you think best for each studentIt may not necessarily be the most recent test!  Use the drop-down arrow to see all STAR results for the student. Remember the GE score you select will determine their ZPD and their points goal, so it’s very important.  If you think the most recent test is too high/low for that student, select another STAR test score that will give them more realistic goals.

-Be sure to Save.
