Paws for Reading

Paws for Reading Program

We are so excited to offer a new program to our CUSD students. Paws for Reading came to fruition in the Fall of 2019. Students who have received permission from their parents or guardians have the opportunity to read to licensed therapy dogs in a safe, nurturing, and non-judgemental environment. Along with our district elementary Teacher Librairan, dog handlers and their dogs will work with small groups of students approximately one to two times per month practicing reading skills and fluency. The program is sponsored by the Paws for People Therapy Dogs Program. All dogs are trained and certified therapy dogs who have passed a series of simulations, passed health screenings, been vet checked, and are free of ticks/fleas, and current on all vaccinations. Reading to our fur friends boosts confidence and  motivation!
