CommonCore and Your School Library

The CommonCore is all about student use of information - and information is our business!    Here are some great ways your school library and the Elem District Teacher Librarian can support CommonCore:

READING, the CommonCore, and the Library:
Develop a collection with high-interest nonfiction titles on a variety of topics and reading levels.
Recommend non-fiction to support the curriculum and unique student interests.
Help support non-fiction reading with Accelerated Reader.

RESEARCH, the CommonCore, and the Library:
The Library Media Assistant can help you and your students select books for your research project.
The District Librarian can develop a list (accessible via the web) of additional recommended resources for your research assignment.
The District Librarian can provide instruction for your students on conducting research using the Library Catalog, Grolier Online Encyclopedias, and other quality resources for your assignment.
The District Librarian can provide instruction and support for recording and citing (Bibliographies, Works Cited) the sources used in student projects.

We offer a number of research-related instructional sessions - contact us to discuss your needs!
